CAMPAIGNS

Below is an overview of the campaigns we have been involved in, with links to learn more about the tangible effects they have had in our community.

Past Campaigns

In late 2024, the Government released Amplify - their national creative and cultural strategy that outlined how they would support New Zealand’s creative sectors to 2030. This strategy was open for sector feedback and Arts Action Now created a campaign to help demystify the strategy and encourage the feedback submissions

Our researchers created two key documents - a detailed and simplified explanation of Amplify - for people to read and share widely. We also compiled further information about submissions guides and templates to make the process as simple as possible.

Read our information page on Amplify here.

At the end of 2023 and early 2024 councils around the country were developing their Long Term Plans for 2024-2034. Below you’ll see resources developed to help creatives engage in their council’s long-term plan consultations. Councils are now reviewing the feedback received and will be publishing their Long-term Plans later in 2024.

Aotearoa Arts, Culture and Creativity Strategy
(2023)

The 2023 election saw little in the way of arts and culture policy from any of the political parties. We saw this as an opportunity to discuss the need for a national arts, culture and creativity strategy. A strategic framework can provide a map for intentional development and investment.  It can help inform decisions about key issues, such as education and sustainable career pathways, and guide government, local government, philanthropic and corporate investment to where it will have the most impact.

Read about why we need to have a strategy and what it might be informed by.

We also held two virtual wānanga about the strategy where 85 people across the country attended. Read what they wanted to see in a national arts, culture and creativity strategy.

Opposing The Treaty Principles Bill (Current)

The Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill is open for submissions until January 7th 2025. We strongly encourage submissions opposing this bill, so we have pulled together a range of resources and guides from across organisations to assist in the submission-making process.

Stop The Cuts Campaign (2023)

In 2022-2023 Te Taumata Toi-a-Iwi worked closely with the Ngā Toi Advocacy Network and key sector leaders/advocates on mobilising opposition to the proposed Auckland Council budget cuts that were announced in December 2022. The proposed cuts would have had a devastating impact on the creative sector through the loss of funding and community services.
