ABOUT
Arts Action Now!!! began as StopTheCuts - an advocacy web hub created in response to the Auckland Council’s draft 2023/2024 budget.
StopTheCuts was led by Te Taumata Toi-a-Iwi alongside Arts Makers Aotearoa and other advocacy groups. This campaign facilitated Auckland’s arts, culture and creative sector to respond to the draft budget by providing:
information on the cuts to arts and culture funding in the 2023/2024 draft budget
access to research on the likely impact of those cuts
a guide on how to participate in the Council’s consultation process.
The hub received 63,000 unique views and the impact of the sector’s action was significant: The scale of the proposed cuts to arts and culture in the Council’s final budget was greatly reduced.
The success of StopTheCuts led to the creation of the ArtsActionNow!!! web hub as a national resource for advocacy from the arts, culture and creative sector.
We hope for Arts Action Now!!! to be a space for artists, creatives, arts organisations and art lovers to learn about advocacy, get involved and collaborate for change.
Arts Action Now!!! also plans workshops and hui to engage local artists and creatives in campaigns
